These kittens get the very best of everything, including vet care, which is expensive enough, even without an emergency c-section etc., the best quality food and are certified purebreds by TICA and or CFA. Kitten prices help offset showing the cats as well. Usually we don't even break even after kittens sales as hard as that is to believe.
There are kitten shots, deworming, registration papers, which is all included in our kitten prices! Don't be taken by "breeders" who let their kittens go at 8 weeks of age to skip on vet expenses! They play on your desire to have a tiny baby as soon as possible. This is when the kittens get their etiquette training and really learn to use the scratching post and and get well socialized. Bad habbits can form in kittens that have been taken from their mothers too young!!! Those "Ragdoll kittens" that you see in the papers quite often are not even pure Ragdolls. They will not be able to furnish papers on these "Ragdolls". There are people that are "cashing in" on the popularity of the breed. If you ask for papers on your kitten it is likely there wont be any! $200.00 is a lot to spend on a kitten you could have found at your local animal shelter!
The expense you pay for your baby is a drop in the bucket compared to what you will spend in your cats lifetime. My "friend" got a persian kitten from the papers for a "great deal" and I cannot tell you the money she had to spend to get this kitten "healthy"! Don't let this be you!!! She spent much more then she would have on buying a lovely kitten from a "reputable" breeder! A reputable breeder will have a contract protecting you should something be wrong with the kitten. In short, yes, you can find a kitten cheaper, but you get what you pay for. You can consider what you get by purchasing your kitten from a reputable breeder as money well spent!
